..The Basics..

Fullname of Character: Damien Black

Nickname(s): None as of yet

Age: 16

Year: 7th

House: Gryffindoor

Birthday: November 31, 1991.

Ancestry: Pure blooded

..Among the many faces..

General Appearance:

Damien is 5’11”, and very well built. With a six-pack, a great chest and biceps and thighs to match, he seems to be quite capable of being a model. His black hair is usually cut to fall down somewhat above his ears, and is usually messy. His eyes, perhaps, would be the most peculiar thing about him- they are blue in color, but change shades according to his moods- from a very warm, ocean-blue when he is happy, to a chilling ice-blue when he is aggravated, though they rarely seem to change from the shades representing melancholy. His face is a bit odd as well- having low amounts of fat and thus making it seem rather skull-like.

His clothing while among muggles is pure and simple- jeans, sneakers, and a T-shirt, preferably pure black. When in the wizarding world, yet not at school and therefore in school robes, one can usually see him wearing a set of black or midnight blue robes that have silver lining.

Damien holds himself straight, his head held up high, as any Black should. When one looks at his eyes, though, one can see that there is some deep-set sadness there as a melancholy pair of sapphire globes stares back.

..What's on the inside..

Personality:

Damien is quiet, but not for lack of talking. He speaks silently, though, and calmly, and this seems to bring others to a silence when listening to him, whether from some unknown feeling of respect (completely ungrounded and silly, in Damien's opinion), or from straining to hear what he is really saying.

It might seem that he doesn't have a whole lot of fun, but this again is due to his calm and peaceful behavior, which might seem odd for a boy of his age. He is intelligent, and rather gifted when it comes to transfiguration, charms, and art. His favorite pastimes had always been drawing, reading, and playing the piano.

Despite the reputation of a hermit he might seem to be building, Damien would jump at a chance to have some more adrenaline-imbued fun at any time. Peace and quiet are wonderful, but too much of such tends to get boring.

The true reason behind his quiet demeanor, though, is a result of his family life, something to be mentioned later in this document. Deep inside, there is a teenage boy just aching to get out.

Still, no matter the caring and kind person that he is, Damien is not harmless. He knows how to wield both his wand and his fists, and is not a pacifist, contrary to popular opinion. He merely avoids fights by ending arguments in other ways. Damien does have a temper, and it is not overly hard to anger him to a point where he might result to violence.

All in all, he is a regular teenage boy wrapped in a veil of silence, secrets, and calmness.

..The story..

Family: Desmond Black, Dietrich Noble (through his mother)

History:

On the very day that Damien was born, his father left. This person, the one who was supposed to be the paternal figure in the Black household, was there for the birth, helped name the child, spent a few joyous hours with his son, and then was never to be seen again by either his wife or child. Curious, all throughout his growing up, Damien frequently asked questions about his father, yet only received the answer that his name was Desmond. His mother seemed to be overcome with grief or perhaps pity whenever the conversation went towards this general area, so Damien kept away from it.

He displayed magic at the age of six, and his mother seemed to have become relieved. Later on, she told that she was expecting him to do so much earlier. He immediately enrolled in Hogwarts, only a day after the receiving of the letter. His first four years of school were uneventful, drawl years of an only child fitting in with the rest.

Before even the first class of fifth year began, Damien received two letters, both from the Ministry of Magic. One, rather shortly and perhaps meanly in that manner, informed him of the death of his mother. She, as he found out when he went home for two weeks in the middle of the semester in order to organize the funeral and everything, died from sudden heart failure. That was where the story ended- there were no mystical clues or mysterious trap doors involved, as many of the surrounding wizards so badly wanted them to be there. Even though a remote branch of the Black family, Damien's inheritance was equal to the severity of the last name. An influential and old family, it was hard not to attract poachers and thieves.

The second letter informed Damien, in a much harsher and more business-like tone, that if he did not find a guardian within the month, he would lose the house and everything and be sent to an orphanage until he finished school.

Upon his return to Hogwarts, Damien had only about two weeks left to find a guardian, and did not even remotely dream of asking any of the staff, so he was pretty much cast heavily in despair. In the light of all of these events, Damien had become self-destructive in a way, and his grades fell way down, from mostly outstanding ones to barely passing. He distanced himself away from his friends, and became even more of a loner. Towards the end of the month, however, the letter that he was expecting to come and inform him of eviction did not come.

And it did not come the following day, week, or month. Damien was so confused about this, and still anticipating it, that he did not do a whole lot better in school. He had periods when he had his hopes up, thinking that perhaps they would evict him after all, and those short flashes of time were the only thing that helped him pass the year.

When he came back home for the summer, however, he had a rather big surprise waiting for him in his house. There, in the living room, clad in black and white, much the way Damien dressed, with the same blue eyes, a glass of wine in one hand, sat Desmond Black, Damien’s father. Damien’s initial thoughts were swarmed with wishes of revenge and desires of causing pain, but that drained off quickly, and he was merely happy to see his father after all that time. The man, in turn, was also happy, but at the same time apologetic, saying that he thought it best to get out of the way of Damien’s and Maria’s happiness. Any further inquiries as to what lay behind that reason were met with a concrete wall of resistance.

One thing, however, Damien did learn- Desmond was a horribly rich man, even more so than Damien and Maria had been, and that was not to be neglected, and Damien was promised all of it. The boy, despite all these promises of great riches, was not all too interested in them, not as much as he was interested in knowing what his father had done all these years.

In response to all these questions, Desmond started teaching Damien over the summer, and what started off as an innocent small number of experiments in the cellar ended up in being Damien’s greatest interests in so far- charms and transfiguration. Upon hearing that there was an animagus class in Hogwarts, Desmond practically forced his son to promise to take it, and the charms and theories of making them that the boy now knew exceeded by far the requirement for an outstanding grade at the end of year five.

With the start of his sixth year, still saddened by his mother’s death, yet not severely so, Damien went to school with a new kind of disposition on life- good stuff really did seem to happen, after all.

The year passed by quickly and easily, with flying grades. Now, finally, he is about ready to end his schooling, though he has thought of asking a few of the teachers to give him a tutelage or something such, allowing him to stay in the school, or at least come during work hours, so to speak. He is hoping to finally master the animagus transformation.

..Writing Skills..

RP Sample:

He sat beneath the tree, right in front of the lake, one pencil in hand, others, in various colors, sprayed across the ground next to him. His eyes, now ocean-blue, darted from the surface of the lake to the surface of the paper, and his hand moved furiously across the page that once might have been blank. As a small fish came near the surface of the water, a few ripples appeared, and they soon spread out from their center, making small waves upon which the silvery rays of the full moon reflected and the whole scene seemed so perfect. Once he was done, Damien put the pencil aside, gently putting his notebook down on the ground, and then stood up.

He was barefoot, and now he took off his robes and the shirt he wore underneath, remaining only in a pair of midnight blue swim trunks. He walked slowly towards the water, and once he was there, he jumped in, reveling in the feeling of the cold liquid slipping over his tanned skin. He did not emerge until he was about half-way towards the other shore, and then he returned, and then swam several more times to and fro, enjoying the cold, enjoying the moon which still bathed the entire school in its milky, silver light, and simply forgetting about anything.

On the shore, the drawing was of a scene same as the one of the peaceful lake lit by the moon, except that the satellite’s silky rays seemed much more material, and they were almost strands of silver and white, glowing around the surface in what was a beautiful picture.
